AGT Case Study: WORLEY PARSONS
At the end of the previous decade, Encana Corporation, a large international natural gas, oil, and natural gas liquids producer, contracted Worley Parsons, a global engineering, procurement, and construction giant, to serve as project manager for construction of its gas compressor station set in Weyburn, SK, Canada.
Encana's natural gas compressor station was compressing sour gas and needed a continuous supply of nitrogen for its compressor seal gas purge. Due to the site's relatively remote location - it's located a good 7-1/2 hours east of Calgary - the decision was easily made that onsite nitrogen generation technology would prove much more economical and practical then receiving nitrogen shipments via truck.
Thus, Worley Parsons was looking for a turnkey, redundant nitrogen supply solution when it first made contact with Advanced Gas Technologies.
Teaming up to collaborate with the Worley Parsons' engineering group, the Advanced Gas Technologies team designed a "plug and play," skid-mounted nitrogen generating system capable of continuous, uninterrupted operation in a sour gas environment, all monitored remotely 24 hours a day.
The system included a duplex rotary screw feed air compressor system that would automatically alternate for equal load sharing. The compressed air dryer and nitrogen generating system included redundant compressed air filtration packages that could be maintained while the system was in operation. To prevent corrosion from the sour gas environment, all brass or copper process materials had to be replaced by stainless steel or other non-corroding material.
Advanced Gas Technologies completed this custom engineered system on time and on budget, and it’s been operating problem free ever since.
